Eight people were killed after massive violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. The trouble erupted when farmers in Lakhimpur were protesting against the visit of U.P deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya. While the protest was on, some of the farmers were allegedly ran over by BJP convoy, leading to the death of two persons. The incident angered farmers who resorted to arson and set alight several vehicles while also allegedly beat BJP workers. The farm unions alleged that the convoy belonged to Union Minister Ajay Mishra and that his son ran over the farmers. However the minister has categorically refuted the allegations, claiming his son was not part of the convoy. He also alleged that four persons who were part of the convoy were beaten to death by the mob. Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath, has termed the incident at Lakhimpur unfortunate and vowed to punish those behind the incident.
